Mohiville and Namur
May 9: a bit low key. 9yr old Maurice took us on a tour around the village, and particularly to the nearby waterwheel and Laundry ancienne. Bill just had to do some vehicle works so the afternoon was spent patching rust spots on the van.
In the evening we had a wonderful meal at a Chinese restaurant in nearby Ciney to celebrate Mothers Day with Fanchon’s Mère, Armelle and Jeremy’s mom, whatsername. Typical of European dinner we were there for some 3 hours!
May10: more touring if the region, with Jeremy and Maurice. First stop was Spontin, a small village but with a grand chateau. Then to a picnic lunch in Gondinne on the bank of the Meuse, and finally to the capital of the region, Namur. Namur is quite a large centre on the Meuse, with a huge fortress complex on the hill. Being so young and fit, (haha) we hiked up, and took the gondola down, which landed us in the old town just in time for une biere amongst the swarms of students from the Université.
May11: another low key day in Mohiville at Jeremy’s house Pat and I did get out to a wonderful local art centre called La Spirale. It displays works of regional artists: ceramics, woodworking and fabric arts. A very nice centre in a rural garden setting.
Bill and Jeremy went to check out a VW Bombardier Jeep thing for sale nearby as a possible import to Canada for profit opportunity. No decision yet!
May 12: After 4 delightful days with Jeremy and Fachon it was time to move on. So we set our GPS on “avoid motorways” and set off southward through rolling countryside and rustic villages.
A surprise stop was the hillside town of Rochehaut perched above the serpentine Semois River. We’d stopped to buy some cheese and sausage for lunch but couldn’t resist the beautiful patio restaurant, serving local cheese and viandes, oh and biere.
